DIY 101

Have you got an itch to do a bit of DIY around your place and who doesn’t? Here’s a few tips to get you on your way.

Start with a Detailed Plan: Before you pick up a tool, map out your project thoroughly. Consider the materials you’ll need, the time it will take, the design details, and—most importantly—the cost. A solid plan helps you avoid costly mistakes.

Stick to Your Decisions: Changing your mind mid-project can lead to frustration, delays, and an inflated budget. Take the time upfront to think things through, so you stay on track from start to finish.

Spend Smartly: Decide where to invest and where to save. Splurge on big-ticket items that make a lasting impact, but look for ways to cut costs on smaller details without sacrificing quality.

Know When to DIY (and When to Call in the Pros): Be honest about what you can handle. For tasks outside your expertise, hire licensed and reliable tradespeople.

  • Ask family and friends for recommendations of tradespeople or take a look at my Recommended Tradies List.

  • Request examples of their previous work to ensure quality.

Get Started: With your plan in place and resources lined up, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get crackin'

Good luck, and happy DIYing!
