FINDING A ROOF LEAK

So many people ask me for help in figuring out what’s causing their roof to leak.

First things first, when does it leak? Is it every time it rains or only when it’s heavy.  Maybe just when the wind is blowing from a certain direction.

Start by looking for the obvious signs such as cracked tiles, lifted flashing, rust holes in the valleys or even blocked downpipes.

Let’s not forget the debris on your roof. A build-up of leaves and twigs can create a dam effect and force water into places it shouldn’t go. Imagine water running down the roof valley and it hits a pile of leaves. All of a sudden it’s got nowhere to go so it ends up going into your roof.

The most important thing to remember working around the home is safety!  If you’re uncomfortable getting up on ladders, don’t do it! Save that job for someone else.
